MYA is partnering with the Human Rights Campaign to fight for LGBT equality in Russia. Visit http://loveconquershate.org
The HRC’s new grassroots, Love Conquers Hate solidarity campaign, is an effort to show our LGBT brothers and sisters in Russia that we stand with them in the face of increasingly discriminatory and oppressive laws, which stand in violation of their basic human rights. The issue has become so severe that the Russian government has now scheduled a vote on a bill that would remove children from the custody of their gay parents. The goal is to provide all Americans with an opportunity to show solidarity in the ongoing struggle for LGBT rights all over the world, and offer tangible support to activists, advocates, and all those being persecuted for their sexuality in Russia.
As you may already know, HRC just launched a social media campaign last week in efforts to begin a tidal wave of support leading up the Sochi Olympics in February. We are asking our friends all around the world to take photos of themselves in HRC’s Love Conquers Hate t-shirts (written in Russian) and Instagram/twitter/facebook post using the #loveconquershate
100% of the net proceeds from the sale of the t-shirts will go to a fund that supports LGBT advocates in Russia. Participants that have already posted to show their support and raise awareness of this issue include Madonna, Mya, Jonah Hill, Kristen Bell, Fergie, Kelly Osbourne, Chelsea Handler, Kevin Bacon, Jaime Lee Curtis, America Ferrera, Ricky Martin, Perez Hilton, Doutzen Kroes, Jay Manuel, Anthony Bourdain, Wentworth Miller, Taryn Manning, Tim Gunn, Jozy Altidore and Todd Glass with many more to come.
